Jolla UI issues: drawers, controls, and video pausing

After a comment from @Iryus_4Ever, I thought a bit about the video player inside the gallery application. For those who didn’t notice, the video player pauses itself when you click on the screen, and shows controls. Another tap (outside the “play” arrow) opens the drawer, where you can find the back button indicator, as well as sharing options.

This flow might be nice, it is highly interruptive. When seeking for a video, you don’t want it to be paused all the time. Instead, you might want the video to continue playing, and resume playing when you finish seeking. However, this solution is not the worst one, since you have to manage three actions just by tapping:

  • Play / pause videos
  • Show / hide controls
  • Open / close drawer

I have done a quick and dirty fix about this UX issue and propose the following solution. It is open to discussions, and I would love to see if some Jolla people would comment on this point ;):

  • Tapping when the video is paused opens or closes drawer
  • Tapping when the video is playing shows video controls
  • Tapping when the video is playing and controls shown opens or closes drawer
  • The controls dissapears after 2 seconds

I have created a package that patches the Gallery. Feel free to try. Please note that this package is an experimental one, and might break parts of your device.

It did indeed. I tried your packages, but now gallery is broken. Pkcon remove and a reboot still leaves Gallery in a usesless state.
The only thing that is working, is ambiences. My Video folder first showed two files but with “Oops, cannot display thumbnail” and after leaving and entering “Videos” a second time the folder is empty. Same goes for Photos, only one file shows up with “Oops, cannot display thumbnail” and if you try to open the pictures nothing is visible in the drawer.

So, any help would be nice…

  2. Nevermind, got it fixed.I just haven’t noticed that update 1.0.4.20 probably brought this bug. 😉 Recreating /Pictures/Jolla folder and /Videos/Camera folder followed by a ‘tracker-control -krs’ fixed it 😀
So, I installed your patch a second time and everything works pretty well!!! Thanks for your work mate.
