After a comment from @Iryus_4Ever, I thought a bit about the video player inside the gallery application. For those who didn’t notice, the video player pauses itself when you click on the screen, and shows controls. Another tap (outside the “play” arrow) opens the drawer, where you can find the back button indicator, as well as sharing options.
This flow might be nice, it is highly interruptive. When seeking for a video, you don’t want it to be paused all the time. Instead, you might want the video to continue playing, and resume playing when you finish seeking. However, this solution is not the worst one, since you have to manage three actions just by tapping:
- Play / pause videos
- Show / hide controls
- Open / close drawer
I have done a quick and dirty fix about this UX issue and propose the following solution. It is open to discussions, and I would love to see if some Jolla people would comment on this point ;):
- Tapping when the video is paused opens or closes drawer
- Tapping when the video is playing shows video controls
- Tapping when the video is playing and controls shown opens or closes drawer
- The controls dissapears after 2 seconds
I have created a package that patches the Gallery. Feel free to try. Please note that this package is an experimental one, and might break parts of your device.
